Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to one and all! I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas, and had some time to re-charge your batteries.
2012 begins in a fairly quiet way astrologically, a quarter of the way through the lunar cycle, building up to a Full Moon on January 9th. All the planets are moving forwards, which hopefully signifies new plans progressing well. There is a distinct lack of any planet moving through a Water sign (until the 14th January, when Venus moves into gentle Pisces), so anyone with an emphasis on the Water signs in their chart (these are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) could feel a bit like a fish out of water until then.
The Moon does move into Cancer on 7th January, which, with the looming, luminous Full Moon, will provide an outlet for all the emotional issues that may have built up over the last few weeks. Imagine a switched off water feature suddenly being turned on, the water gently streaming into a pool, and feel the sense of enjoyment and calm.
Sunday 1st January begins with an Aries Moon, and Mercury in Sagittarius squaring Mars in Virgo. This is not a flowing combination, but one where everyone wants their say, and the air could be filled with a fiery, combative spirit. On an individual level, it could be you agree to something you do not really want to do, so try and work out boundaries beforehand, metaphorically and physically, so it is easier to say no to something which does not feel right.
The best way to handle this energy is to use the energy in a physical way - go for a walk, get some fresh air, or whatever takes your fancy. Try to maintain a calm demeanour if you happen to be with people who wind you up, realizing that this is just a temporary blip, and that it will have passed in a few days.
Travel could also be challenging, with others trying to stop you proceeding as easily as you would like to.
The Moon moves into Taurus on the 2nd January (22.16), an Earth sign which is compatible with the Capricorn Sun. It is a good time to pursue practical matters of any kind, and make new financial plans.
On the 5th January, the Moon shimmies into Gemini, a sign that loves to communicate, and move around generally. Be open to new ideas, and play with the possibilities that could emerge.
