Full Moon in Libra - Looking after Yourself and Others
Column for 18th - 24th April 2011

Unless you are an extremely fiery type, you may feel that life has been quite mad for the last few weeks. Things may have been unfolding too fast and furiously, leaving little time for breathing space and contemplation. There are five planets in Aries at the moment, and this week, as the Sun moves into Taurus, on the 20th April, Venus shimmies from watery Pisces into fiery Aries the next day, changing the planets involved, but still leaving five there. Mercury has been retrograde (appearing to go backwards) since 30th March, adding communication glitches and misunderstandings of all kinds.
Changes are afoot this week: Mercury begins to move forwards again on the 23rd, and the solar energy in Taurus will help to steady the energy. In a few weeks time, Mercury, Venus and Mars will have all moved from Aries to Taurus; it will be interesting to see how this feels to you.
For now, while the fire energy is around in abundance, use this time to be open to new ideas and projects; just note that some may be like a rocket firework that casts its spectacular stars with dynamic effect, only to disappear a few minutes later. People could be like this too.
A Full Moon begins the working week, with positive aspects to Neptune. Full Moons emphasize the differences between two signs, and the intensity that is sometimes felt is due to a see-saw effect, as the characteristics of each sign vie with each other to get attention. Aries and Libra are the signs involved this time. Symbolically, Aries is very concerned with self, wanting to fulfill your own needs and express individuality in a forthright, enthusiastic way. Libra likes to relate to another, whether it is in an emotional or business partnership (or both), likes to feel in harmony, and needs fairness.
Compromise may be the order of the day, with priorities being reviewed, and values re-stated, so that everyone involved knows what is really important to each individual. From there, ways of connecting can emerge. Look for the similarities rather than the differences, and see how you can come together with others. Neptune, which has recently moved into its own sign Pisces, will throw a compassionate light on the proceedings; the more warmth and love shown, the easier the way forward.
The Moon moves into Scorpio, and trines Neptune, a few hours after the Full Moon, highlighting intuition, imagination and passion.
Another thread, weaving its way on another level, is the exact opposition later in the day of Mars and Saturn. These two have been manoeuvring towards this position for a week or so. Delays, and difficulties with getting things done smoothly may have been adding to the generally lively energetic mix. This should ease somewhat after this opposition, and then some more when Mercury goes direct.
A conjunction between Mercury and Mars dominates Tuesday, making it a day of lively debate and exchange of ideas, or being at the mercy of someone who is extremely opinionated. Put your point of view, but stay out of becoming embroiled in the dramas of others.
There is a harmonious trine between the Scorpio Moon and Pisces Venus early in the morning on Wednesday 20th, increasing feelings of love and harmony. Then the Moon moves into Sagittarius, encouraging a light-hearted feel to the day. The Sun leaves Aries and enters Taurus, calming and steadying the solar energy for the next four weeks or so.
It is a good time to connect with nature, go for a walk, listen to the birds, delight at the fresh green leaves on trees, enjoy the all-pervasive growth of plants. If you are in the southern hemisphere, drink in all those beautiful, vibrant autumnal colours. Taurus is the most sensual sign: beauty in all its forms, nature, art, music, food, drink, the body (massage, beauty treatments, fashion), feeds the spirit of Taurus. Anyone can be uplifted by nurturing the senses. A sextile from the Sun to Neptune makes going with the flow an attractive option; those of a creative bent may find day-dreaming leads to a pleasant influx of innovative ideas.
Lovely, harmonious lunar aspects permeate Thursday. This is fire energy at its best, sparkly, optimistic, and game for anything. Venus, planet of love and money, moves into Aries. Venus is maybe less compassionate than in Pisces, but feelings are likely to be expressed in a direct and fast fashion. If you have not known where you stand in a relationship recently, it may become clearer now.
More grounding energy infuses Friday 22nd, as the Moon moves into Capricorn, forming a harmonious link with the Sun in Taurus. Practical matters generally work well, although with squares from Venus and Uranus to the Moon, there may be a bit of you that just wants to go and play. Hold on, the weekend is nearly here.
There are several niggling lunar aspects on Saturday 23rd April. Others may not be in a convivial mood, and much patience may be required. The state of the planetary line-up at the moment is that there are either many harmonious lunar aspects clustered together, or many challenging ones. Thursday 21st had the benefit of the easy ones, Saturday has the not-so-easy ones. Fore-warned is fore-armed as they say.
However, Venus conjuncts Uranus on Saturday too, making this an auspicious time to create something different, meet some-one new, or discover an innovative way to make money. Venus and Uranus are in Aries, so events could unfurl in a sudden or unexpected fashion. Originality is the order of the day. Be open to the unusual and unconventional.
Sunday has far fewer challenging aspects (and maybe less excitement?).
The Moon enters Aquarius in the evening, and sextiles Uranus later, renewing the Uranian vibe from the day before. It is a good time to be open yet detached in emotional matters.
