Jupiter in Aries - the Pioneering Spirit
22nd - 28th January 2011

The main celestial event this week is jovial Jupiter's entry into Aries, on Saturday 22nd (17.11 GMT). Jupiter has a 12 year cycle, so spends approximately one year in each sign. Having said this, Aries has been a bit short-changed this time round, as Jupiter spent around three summer months of 2010 in this sign, and will now spend six months of 2011 here (until June 4th).
Jupiter, like its actual physical size, like things large. It is connected to growth, expansion, on a physical and mental level. Philosophy, education and travel are also in the picture. I would include almost anything that allows room to manouevre, possibilities to broaden horizons, or move beyond the boundaries.
In Aries, Jupiter likes to expand in an enthusiastic, fast, straightforward way, engaging a pioneering spirit and the belief that anything is possible, that miracles do happen. Jupiter in Aries is optimistic and positive, and will recover from any setbacks to try the 'next thing'. The only drawbacks to this position are too much idealism and not enough practicality, and the possibility of not reaching completion because the next project is too exciting to put on hold.
The secondary significant fact to note this week is Saturn stations on Wednesday 26th, and then will retrograde (appear to go backwards from the perspective of Earth) until June 13th 2011. When a planet slows down ready to go retrograde, or direct, the energy of that planet intensifies. It is likely that Saturn's concern with structure, restriction and discipline has been felt by many since early December 2010, and in the sign Libra, the emphasis is on justice, fairness and relationships. This week the intensity could be felt even more; the most positive way to use this personally is to be as disciplined as you can manage in all your endeavours, and to be as realistic and focused as possible.
As well as being personified sometimes as the Grumpy Old Man, Saturn is also known as the Wise Teacher. This could be a good time to encounter the latter, while keeping the former at a safe distance!
Venus sextiles Saturn on Sunday 23rd, signifying a day to celebrate good friendships and relationships. There's a positive blend between being realistic and yet keeping the rose-tinted spectacles at the ready; it's auspicious for love and money, and could indicate either of these has a chance to grow and turn into something of wonderful value.
The Moon moves into Libra in the last minute (23.59 GMT) of Sunday 23rd, and the easy flow between this and the Aquarian Sun unfolds on Monday 24th.
Links between the Moon, Saturn and Venus highlight the relationship/fairness issues mentioned above, on Tuesday 25th January.
The Moon moves into watery Scorpio on Wednesday, 26th, testing Aquarius' sense of detachment, wanting more emotional expression to come into the mix. A Mercury/Saturn square indicates that it would be tempting to see the cup as half empty rather than half-full today. There's a tendency for pessimism, or feeling hampered or restricted on a mental level: a decision to re-define one's self-worth and capabilities will help to alleviate this, as will avoiding taking on board any negative media stories out there in the airwaves.
A good dose of your favourite music and a comedy programme or two will raise the spirits so that the gentle sextile between the Moon and Mercury, on Thursday 27th, can be enjoyed. Heart and mind are connected today; it's much easier to express how you really feel, compared to yesterday.
Friday 28th is full of hope and optimism as the Moon skips into Sagittarius, lightening the vibe noticeably. The Moon also makes harmonious links to Jupiter, Uranus and the Sun; a good day to have fun, think about new possibilities on the domestic front and see the lighter side of life.
