Celebrate the Changing Cycles - Winter Solstice and Full Moon
Saturday 18th - Friday 24th December 2010

It's the week before Christmas, and along with last minute purchases, and general busy-ness, it's also the time of a Full Moon in Gemini, and the Winter Solstice, both on Tuesday, 21st December.
Mercury, merry little planet of communication moves back into Sagittarius on Saturday, 18th, lightening the mode of conversation, adding levity and possibly a bit of madness as it contacts several planets this week. Links between the Sun, Moon, Uranus and Neptune today add good will, surprise and a dash of otherworldly excitement.
The Moon moves into Gemini on Sunday (3.37amGMT), signifying a time of movement, a time when being adaptable helps. There's a tendency to scatter one's energy, and to generally try to do too much in too short a space of time. Slow, deep breathing helps – remember, there are few real emergencies.
There's a mix of being rational and fair-minded, or stubborn and tunnel-visioned on Monday, 20th. Mercury's link to Uranus later in the day (23.30 GMT) may spark off something unexpected. Opinions will not be easily swayed today, particularly if they are connected to education, philosophies and beliefs.
At 8.13 am on Tuesday, 21st, a Full Moon eclipse takes place in the last degree of Gemini. Like last month, there's a culmination of something, which is quickly followed by a shift to something different, as the Moon enters its own sign, Cancer, at 9.22am. Tuesday, 21st unfolds in layers, each layer giving a pause for thought, a consideration which may lead to a revelation, followed by another.
The Moon/Pluto opposition, also on Tuesday (6pm) encourages the idea of de-cluttering and detoxifying, whether it's on a physical, emotional or mental level. Say 'farewell' to those habits and thought patterns which have been holding you back, and say 'welcome' to those that give you a lift and a warm feeling in your heart.
It is a day of reflection, a day to set intentions for the next three months. In the northern hemisphere, this is the point of most darkness; it's a heartening thought that from now on more light (even if it is incredibly slow for a few weeks) is returning. How can you have more light in your life?
As Tuesday comes to a close, the Sun changes signs, (at 23.38 GMT), shifting the focus from the outgoing, fiery Sagittarian energy to the more grounded and enterprising Capricorn energy.
As the Moon continues to move through Cancer on Wednesday and Thursday morning, the emphasis is on home and family; at 12.51 GMT, on Thursday 23rd, the mood shifts, as the Moon enters Leo, possibly with a flourish, a feather boa and a dramatic gesture, and the fun begins.
The Moon is in fun-loving, entertaining Leo until 15.14 on Saturday, Christmas Day (when you could well have just finished Christmas dinner, and need a snooze and/or a bit of quiet telly), so use these days, if you can, to connect with people in a warm-hearted way, being generous with your gifts of kindness and hope. Happy Christmas Eve!
I'll aim to post the Christmas column around the 22nd.
