Gurgling, spluttering and possible eruptions in the engine room

The weekend begins pleasantly enough with a Moon/Neptune conjunction drawing out the creative side of life, and the moon swimming into Neptune's sign Pisces at 18.41 GMT on Saturday. It's a day to give in to daydreams and fantasy, to focus on wishes that may come true.

Peace, harmony and anything connected to feeding the imagination – a good film, book, piece of music, will enhance positive feelings on Sunday, 12th. It should also be a pleasant time socially as there are four easy links to the Moon, from Mars, Pluto, Mercury and Venus.

A little tension permeates Monday 13th, as the Pisces Moon squares the Sagittarian Sun (13.59 GMT), but hopefully the link between the Moon and Jupiter later on (20.16 GMT) will see humour and bonhomie overcome any aggravating situation.

Mercury, which is appearing to move in retrograde fashion at the moment, connects with Pluto and then Mars on Tuesday, meanwhile Mars has reached the same position as Pluto. To exacerbate the get together of these two assertive, feisty, power-seeking planets, the Aries Moon (it moves into this sign at 7.15 GMT) then makes a challenging aspect to Mercury, Pluto and Mars in less than two hours. Fireworks could be in the air; it's certainly a day to take it as steady as you can, and to be aware that others may be out for a fight.

Imagine a dusty old cellar with an ancient boiler that chunters away. Usually, somehow, despite its age, it works, after a fashion, gurgling and spluttering and sometimes making odd grating noises, but now there's something really amiss, causing mayhem and mischief, and possible explosions.

This is a metaphor for either a state of mind, a method of travel or communication, or something connected to one of those great institutions, like the government, the banks or the Church - Tuesday, 14th December is the day when something, or someone may clog up the cogs, and sparks may fly, causing a standstill or stand-off, followed by potentially powerful transformation.

Change is in the air, especially to do with reviewing issues connected to control, power and also matters involving deep thought. Bear in mind that some people could appear to be throwing their weight around today, and decide whether you want to stand up to them or just give them a wide berth until the mood changes.

Thankfully, the rest of the week looks calmer. A Moon/Saturn opposition on Wednesday signifies a tussle between your own needs and those of others. Compromise and co-operate where you can, but don't submit to anything which makes you feel deeply uncomfortable.

Exuberance and over-doing could be the order of the day on Thursday, as the Sun squares Jupiter. After the Moon's move into pleasure-loving Taurus (18.49GMT), it will be difficult to resist having a good time, and probably over-indulging. If you're going to a Christmas 'do', it should be jolly with delicious food in abundance. It isn't a day to be abstemious – you can always be more sensible tomorrow.

Friday is a positive day to get things done, and to make some headway on any problems, or feelings of 'stuck-ness' that occurred around Wednesday. You may not get all you wished or hoped for, but there's progress on oiling those cogs, listening to smoother workings, and hearing more soothing sounds emanating from the engine room.

Enjoy the week!
