New Moon in Capricorn - Branching Out
9th - 15th January 2010

The New Moon on the 15th January is almost like another 'new year', especially as there's a solar eclipse happening at this time. The auspicious conjunction of Venus to the Sun and the Moon adds 'love' to the solar/lunar blend, creating a moment when the best 'female' and 'male' qualities can shine together harmoniously.
Capricorn is a sign that thrives on building something on solid foundations. New relationships may flourish, but also a new way of relating to yourself, independent of anyone else. Try to accept all the diverse and contradictory parts of yourself, and see if something new emerges from self-acceptance. We're all perfectly imperfect.
Uranus, planet of change and innovation, makes a harmonious link to this New Moon, symbolizing a time to branch out, and try something new. The arts generally are highlighted, and also finances. It is up to you to make the most of any opportunities around, as they may need to be sought out, rather than falling into your lap, like ripe cherries off a tree. You may need to reach up and pick them.
It is definitely a time to let go of anything worn out and old, anything that has shown it isn't working, and isn't likely to, whether it's a relationship based on inequality, or a work situation which doesn't make the most of your talents.
It's a time to set sights high, and to aim for the stars. 'Ad Astra' (towards the stars) was my old school motto – quite an apt one for this time.
Sharp words and an angry mood may colour Saturday 9th, as the Scorpio moon squares up to retrograde Mars. Things may have been simmering under the surface; sometimes it's just better to let it all out and clear the air.
The Moon moves into Sagittarius on Sunday 10th, adding some fiery energy, and a desire to explore, which is fitting for this week's theme of branching out. Sagittarius always likes to see what is over the next horizon, either metaphorically or physically.
Monday,11th sees the first of the Venus conjunctions. A meeting with the Sun ensures a quest for harmony, and creative and/or social pursuits should be especially enjoyable.
The unexpected may happen, or you may suddenly feel upset or differently about something when the Moon squares Uranus on Tuesday, 12th.
The scene is beginning to be set for the New Moon, on Wednesday 13th, as the Moon moves into grounded yet aspiring Capricorn, and the Sun and Venus sextile Uranus. This is the day to notice any intuitive twinklings that may give you the opportunity to make some positive changes. I find writing these down helps, otherwise they tend to be so subtle they can fly out of the window like a feather on a breeze.
The Moon conjuncts Venus just after the New Moon on Friday 15th, highlighting the feminine, the nurturing and caring side of life.
Mercury begins to slowly move forwards on this day too, and there should be a noticeable easing of restrictions, particularly mental ones, after a few days, and you may find it easier to let go of any old mind-sets, or habits, that you feel have been holding you back. It's time to move forward.
