Global Healing and Hope for All

December 2009

During the last week or two many of the autumnal tinted leaves have fallen to the ground, and the stark beauty of the trees is now revealed, standing proud for the winter season. The silver-barked birches look stunning with just a few golden leaves clinging on, waiting for the wind to swirl them away. In the northern hemisphere, it is time to look inwards, mulling over what the year has brought, and making plans for the year ahead.

I'm a great believer in flowing with the season, discerning the rhythm of energy, and aligning myself with it as much as possible. The dark nights encourage hibernation, staying in the warm with a flickering fire and candles, being companionable with others to share stories and comfort, but also looking for new dreams to emerge, signs of where to venture next, either mentally, emotionally or physically. Sagittarius is the Great Explorer, and the Sun is moving through this sign until the 21st.

December is blessed by two full moons this month, one on the 2nd, the other on the 31st. Sandwiched in the middle is the Sagittarian new moon on the 16th December. It's almost like a book opening, closing, and then opening again, but this time falling open at a different page.

The full moon on the 2nd is loosely energized by Mars, suggesting much activity, communication, Christmas cards and messages flying around the globe. Uranus turns direct on the 1st December, speeding up delayed plans and promises of new beginnings. Now it's much easier to put plans into action.

Venus, planet of love and money, moves into Sagittarius on the 1st too, imbuing most of those born under the sign of the centaur with even more bonhomie and a knack for finding where the most fun can be found. It's a time to be light and merry, and definitely to see the glass as half full rather than half-empty. (In my view, this is always the best policy anyway, no matter how dire life seems).

Mercury leaves Sagittarius on the 5th December, calming the mental airwaves somewhat by moving into practical Capricorn, and turns retrograde on the 26th, by which time hopefully all presents will have been delivered, and the post-Christmas period will dovetail quite nicely with Mercury retro's tendency to enjoy quiet reflection.

A new lunar cycle begins on the 16th, and it begins with a planetary party. Five planets link up with the Sun and Moon. Venus conjuncts the pair, Mars trines them, Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron sextile the duo, and just to add a bit of a surprise Uranus squares the Sun and Moon. It's a great time for festivities, letting go, seeing the best in everyone, and feeling the good energy around.

On the 20th December, Mars in Leo turns retrograde, until 10th March 2010, so it will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Mars is the planet of action and assertion, it's dynamic and courageous in Leo, and enjoys attention. Being retrograde suggests this energy will turn inwards in some way, but it will need to be channelled in a positive way. It could be a time to learn how to stand up for yourself in a non-aggressive way. Or maybe you'll find yourself working behind the scenes on some important project.

It could also mean that some 'celebs' are in for quite a challenging time, with others questioning why they are called a 'celebrity'.

The winter solstice, on the 21st December, signifies a pause in the yearly life cycle. It's the shortest day in the northern hemisphere, a time to pause, to sense our connection to others, and at the same time begin to discern what new openings are available to us on an individual level. These will be clearer by the time of the spring equinox in 2010.

Jupiter conjuncts Neptune again on the 21st, with Chiron close by, a potent and optimistic sign that these two should come together on the winter solstice. When these magnificent planets come together it symbolizes healing, spiritual hope, and working for the benefit of us all. Being conscious that we are all connected on some level, and nurturing the similarities between us, rather than pointing out the differences. This would be a great day to send out love, healing and blessings to everyone, every living thing on the planet, and the universe.

The solar energy shifts now from jovial Sagittarius to more sober Capricorn, although I know many Capricorns with a wicked sense of humour. They do tend to have their feet on the ground though, and are generally sure-footed on the paths they choose. It's a time for patience, for valuing those who are steady and reliable, and there in good times and the not so good.

On Christmas Day, Venus moves into Capricorn too, adding to the feeling of wanting security and steadiness in relationships. The Christmas period is noted for its stress-inducing family scenarios, and the full moon on the 31st may see an outpouring of emotion, resulting from overwhelming built-up tension. See it as a release, and also a time to define new boundaries of what is OK, and what isn't, particularly between family members.

Finding a positive balance between work and family matters is an issue on this full moon. It's a great time to sort amicably what family members' needs are, and to fulfill them as much as possible, so the new year gets off to a great start.

Wishing you all many Solstice Blessings and a Merry Christmas!

With love,
Sue xx
